GUIZHOU GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP FOR SOUTHEAST ASIA 2016

Part I INTRODUCTION TO GUIZHOU GOVERNMENT   

     SCHOLARSHIP FOR SOUTHEAST ASIA 2016

Guizhou Government Scholarship (GGS) is established to promote mutual understanding and friendship between China and other countries, attract more international students to study in Guizhou universities, improve educational quality for international students and enhance internationalization of Guizhou higher education. GGS provides financial support for international students, teachers and scholars to study and research in Guizhou universities.

GGS is funded by Guizhou government and managed by Guizhou Provincial Department of Education (GPDE). GGS is applicable to colleges and universities in Guizhou with qualifications to enroll international students.

Guizhou Government Scholarship for Southeast Asia 2016 was established under a collaboration framework among ASEAN-China Center (ACC), Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and GPDE (Guizhou Provincial Department of Education)/CAECW(China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week Secretariat). SEAMEO proposed that GPDE should offer the Scholarship for Southeast Asia to promote understanding and friendship between youths from Southeast Asia and China. By September 2016, 55 students from Southeast Asia will commence their studies in universities and colleges in Guizhou Province, P. R. China. GGS offers two types of scholarships for Southeast Asia applicants:

Full Scholarship Coverage

①A waiver of tuition fees

②Free on-campus dormitory accommodation

③Free Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for International Students in China

④Living allowance

   CNY 1,000 per month for Vocational Education Programmes and Bachelor Programmes

   CNY 1,200 per month for Master Programmes

   CNY 1,500 per month for Doctoral Programmes

·Scholarship holders staying in host universities/colleges for less than 15 days of one month will only be granted half of living allowance of that month.

·Full scholarship will be given all through the duration of major studies in host universities/colleges.

·Full scholarship holders will be subjected to annual review, and failure to pass the review will result in scholarship cancellation.

Partial Scholarship Coverage

◆ Eligibility

①Applicant must be a citizen of a Southeast Asia country, hold a passport of a Southeast Asia country, be in good health and be friendly to China, abide by Chinese laws and regulations, and obey school rules and regulations. In addition, applicant must also be excellent in academics, and has extraordinary all-rounder qualities.

②Doctoral Programmes: Applicant must hold at least a master’s degree or above, and shall be no older than 40;

③Master Programmes: Applicant must be at least a university graduate or above, and shall be no older than 35;

④Bachelor Programmes and Vocational Education Programmes: Applicant must hold at least senior high school education background, and shall be no older than 30;

⑤General Scholar Programmes: Applicant must be at least a university graduate or enrolled university sophomore or higher, and shall be no older than 50; for Chinese Language learners, senior high school education background with age no older than 60 could be acceptable;

⑥Applicant for full scholarship will take priority when holding valid HSK certificates. Applicant without valid HSK certificates shall take a maximum of one-year Chinese language study. For majors taught in English, there is no rigorous requirement on applicants’ Chinese language proficiency.

⑧Applicant who is already granted with any form of China’s national government reward or aid will not be supported by this Scholarship.

 

◆ Application Procedure

 

May-June 2016

Students and parents explore the programmes and institutions in Guizhou via the official website Study in Guizhou at http://lqlx.gzsedu.cn/ and download Guizhou Government Scholarship for Southeast Asia 2016 Application Form.

Before 25 June 2016

Applicants send soft copy of application documents (listed in the next section) to GPDE at jytgjc@hotmail.com .

Before 30 June 2016

GPDE will recommend applicants to designated Guizhou universities.

Before 10 July 2016

Applicants receive interviews from Guizhou universities/colleges.

15 July 2016

Announcement of scholarship recipients.

July-September 2016

Scholarship recipients confirm with the host institution in Guizhou and prepare visa application, travel arrangements.

 

◆ Application Documents

Guizhou Government Scholarship for Southeast Asia 2016 Application Form (in Chinese or English);

②Photocopy of passport and highest diploma ;

③Academic transcripts;

④Photocopy of physical examination certificate;

⑤Study Plan (no less than 400 words) or Research Plan (no less than 800 words) must be submitted for Doctoral or Master’s degree programme applicants;

⑥Applicants under the age of 18 must submit the valid documents photocopy of their legal guardians in China;

⑦Applicants with HSK Certificate should enclose its photocopy in the application package; Documents in language other than Chinese or English must be attached with translation in Chinese or English.
